3/4P’s number one classroom priority is that every child laugh at least a few times each day. I lead by example by laughing lots and lots and always trying to see the lighter side of life. Laughter is good for the soul and brings out the fun side of learning. Our classroom motto “Love One Another” is our guiding principle. There is hardly a need for classroom rules when students and teacher adopt this fundamental philosophy.
Helping students improve their reading and math literacy is one of my primary teaching goals. Our classroom library has over 3000 books that span virtually all genres of literature. We are always looking for donations, whether in the form of new or used books that are suitable for 8 - 10 year olds. We also have an assortment of excellent math resources that allow students to approach their math learning from many different angles (yes, pun intended!).
If you and your child are worried about reading, writing, and math skills, have no fear. I strongly believe in growing a child’s skills from wherever they are. There is room for everyone and all learning levels in our classroom. The pace is gentle, child-centered and fun-filled.
On the home front, I have been married to my husband for nearly 20 years. We have two great kids: a daughter, 14 and a son, who's nearly 10. We share our home with many little creatures: 2 dogs (a black Labrador Retriever and a Golden Retriever) and 3 cats ( 1 orange tabby, 1 ginger tabby, and a classic tabby). Our house is busy, noisy, furry, and fun!
Teaching doesn’t leave a lot of time for hobbies. I do like to cross stitch, read, play board games, bike ride, walk my dogs, and listen to music.
I came to teaching a little later in life. I've tried my hand at all sorts of jobs: sold shoes, worked in a photography studio and at a zoo, spent countless years in banking, I've been on an archaeological expedition in Canada's north, been an environmental consultant, an accounting clerk and, most recently, a family and divorce mediator. Many of these skills come in handy when spending your day with a room full of children!
I have an open door policy. Come by anytime. Stay a bit or the whole day. You don't have to set up a time in advance. There are always many, many extra jobs in an elementary classroom. If you would like to lend a hand, please let me know and you’ll promptly be promoted to “CEO of Odd Jobs” – the pay is nonexistent, but you will receive a lot of praise! If you ever have any questions or concerns, we can set up an appointment that is mutually convenient, or you can contact me at school at 403-381-3330.
