Welcome Back

Dear CES Families,
We hope you had a wonderful summer filled with rest, fun, and time with loved ones. As we prepare to welcome students back to Coalhurst Elementary, our school is buzzing with excitement and anticipation for the year ahead. Whether you are returning to our school community or joining us for the first time, we are so glad to have you with us.
We’d like to share a few staffing updates as we begin the new school year. Mr. Wilson will be joining Ms. Moncrieff to teach the Grade 5–6 class previously taught by Mrs. Barwegen. We are excited to see the creativity and energy they will bring to the classroom. In addition, Mrs. Konynenbelt will be filling in for Ms. Anderson to start off the year. We are grateful to have such a dedicated and caring team of educators ready to support our students.
To help ease into the new school year, we will once again be staggering our start days for students in Grades 1 through 6. This approach allows teachers to spend a bit more one-on-one time with students and helps everyone feel a little more comfortable as they transition back to school. Your child’s teacher will be in touch with you directly to let you know which day your child will begin.
We are also looking forward to our annual Welcome Back BBQ, which will take place on Wednesday, September 10th, beginning at 5:15 p.m. Families will have the chance to spend some time meeting their teachers before heading out back to enjoy hot dogs and chips together. Please remember to bring your own water, and if you’re in the mood for a cool treat, Kona Ice will be on site with tasty options available for purchase.
After the BBQ, we invite you to stick around for our first Parent Council meeting, which will begin around 6:30 p.m. (give or take a few minutes!). Parent Council is a wonderful way to stay connected, share ideas, and be part of the decisions that help shape our school community. We would love to see you there!
Lastly, we want to acknowledge that there have been discussions about the possibility of a labour disruption early in the school year. Whether that means a strike or a lockout, we don’t have any specific information to share at this time. For now, we are planning and preparing for a typical start to the school year, and we will keep families updated as soon as we know more.
We are so excited to welcome everyone back and can’t wait to see all the smiles, laughter, and learning that this year will bring. Thank you for being part of our Coalhurst Elementary community.
